Haley (Kaya Scodelario), a swimmer at the University of Florida, receives a notice from her sister Beth (Morfydd Clark) of the arrival of a Hurricane 5 at the scene, showing her concern about not being able to connect with her father Dave (Barry Pepper). Haley travels to the place where her father may be, and finds him injured in the middle of a flood. Soon after, huge alligators threaten the lives of father and daughter.
With the misleading title in Spanish (it seems that it is going to be a film with sharks or the like at the bottom of the ocean), “Crawl”, a film also known as “Hell In The Storm” (more appropriate), tells a situational story that links in survival to a father and daughter in a Florida hit by a hurricane.
Alexandre Aja, the author of the passable, for his black humor, “Piraña 3D”, gets serious on this occasion to narrate a very routine, simple, predictable film. It is handled with tension in a claustrophobic tone, but its repetition and flat characters disrupt all kinds of empathy with threats, wasting the dramatic efforts of Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper.
The family subplot that values bravery, drive… don’t cry, be strong… nothing matters beyond introducing flashbacks, also redundant. A very weak series B natural terror.
